JUDr. Roman Nižník: “Thank You to All Our Supporters”
At the end of last year, FC Lokomotíva Košice appointed a new club President, JUDr. Roman Nižník. We spoke with him about the significant changes within the club, its current situation, and the direction Lokomotíva aims to take in the coming years.
A New Period for the Club
Mr President, the club is entering a new phase marked by changes in leadership and gradual improvement across several areas, particularly in overall management. What can Lokomotíva supporters expect from this new period in terms of the first team and youth development?
“In the second half of 2025, the club went through major changes, especially in its shareholder structure. These changes were necessary, as the club was not in a good situation at the time. It was a very demanding period, during which Lokomotíva lost a certain level of trust from players and coaches.
Looking ahead, we are working to strengthen the first team with quality players, some of whom have already been introduced. One significant reinforcement is Erik Pačinda, which makes me particularly happy as he is a product of our club. Our aim for the current season is to finish it calmly and achieve the highest possible position in the league table.
From a long-term perspective, our goal is to return Loky to the positions it held in the past — with humility and an emphasis on daily, honest work. During a personal meeting with Mr Ján Kozák Sr., a legend of our club, we as shareholders, together with General Manager Július Rezeš, made him a promise that we intend to fulfil. I will not disclose the details publicly just yet,” he adds with a smile.
“At the same time, I would like to thank Mr Kozák Sr. for his continued involvement and support of Lokomotíva. Regarding youth football, our aim is to strengthen the coaching staff with highly qualified coaches holding top youth licences. These coaches will be introduced soon. We also plan to reinforce individual youth categories with quality players, and within a few years, we want to compete for promotion to the highest youth leagues and obtain academy status.”
Club Management and Stability
Supporters have noticed the appointment of a new General Manager, Július Rezeš, cooperation with Ján Kozák Sr., changes within club leadership, new youth coaches, and the arrival of new sponsors. How will the club’s management operate in the coming period?
“The primary task of the new club leadership is to ensure financial stability. This involves reaching out to new partners and sponsors. I would like to thank all our current partners for their continued support, including the City of Košice. After the changes we have implemented, I believe it will now be easier to attract additional partners.”
Financial Situation of the Club
Financial stability is crucial for progress. What is the club’s current financial condition?
“The club is currently in a stabilised financial position. The costs for the current season are covered, with a positive outlook for the future as well.”
A Special Year: 80th Anniversary
The end of 2025 marked a period of positive change for the club, coinciding with the beginning of its 80th anniversary year. How do you perceive these developments during such a historic milestone?
“FC Lokomotíva Košice is a traditional club and the oldest football club in Košice. As it celebrates its 80th anniversary, it deserves to return among the elite of Slovak football. This is a goal we will all strive for — players, coaches, and club management alike.”
Getting to Know the President
Supporters already know you as part of the club leadership, but could you briefly introduce yourself?
“I am a lawyer and have been practising in Košice for 21 years. I am also active in business, particularly in development and construction. I have been a football fan since childhood, and as a Košice native, that is one of the reasons I decided to dedicate myself to football — specifically to Lokomotíva Košice.
I am very pleased that I have been able to form a team of people who share the same passion for football and who are willing to invest their time, energy, and resources into Loky.”
Message to the Supporters
What is your wish for the supporters for the year 2026?
“I would like to wish all our supporters good health in 2026, and that they continue to take joy in our club and be proud of Loky. At the same time, I would like to thank all our fans and supporters for their constant backing in both good and difficult times.”
